Annie Chan.
The Madame M.

Founder, certified matchmaker, and relationship-empowerment coach. The person behind the Family-of-Origin™ framework — and the one who will, in most cases, be the first person you speak to.

Background

Between 2003 and 2005, Annie’s events company — Red Box Events — organised approximately one thousand singles events in two years, under contract with Singapore’s Social Development Unit. Dinners, speed dating, outdoor gatherings, self-enrichment programmes: anywhere from eight guests to several hundred.

It taught her something she has been building on ever since — that most matchmaking, done at scale, matches nothing. Two people can spend an evening in the same room and leave with nothing to show for it, because the room was designed for numbers and not for people.

The Madame M was founded on 9 September 2009 as her response. A quieter practice, deliberately smaller, organised around a single question: what do these two people actually need to know about each other before they meet?

Philosophy

Annie’s coaching approach is individualised. She believes in equipping clients to grow — to understand themselves better before understanding a partner. She openly shares lessons from her own marriage and divorce, when it’s useful, because a matchmaker who pretends to have never lost anyone is a matchmaker you should not be paying.

Despite the heartbreak, Annie still believes in love. She believes she will find her own, in due time. She is also very clear that believing in it and finding it are two different acts — and the second one takes work.
